October 13, Halloween Festivities

Our Halloween festivities are coming up quick!  Here’s some news you can use…

  • Friday, October 28th is an Early Release day of school.  We will have classroom parties, an outdoor parade (weather permitting) and lunch in the classroom before our staggered dismissal beginning at 12:02.
  • Parents and guests will be allowed to view the parade route, outside without an invitation or background check.
  • There will be a limited number of volunteers allowed into the school and not all classes will have volunteers.  Any parent invited to volunteer in a teacher’s classroom MUST have a completed background check on file.
  • All treats for parties should be store bought and not homemade.
  • Please respect any allergy concerns for your classroom.

  • Parade Details:
  • The parade will begin at 11:00 a.m.
  • The Parade will start in the parking lot, head down Elmwood to Division, up Division along the Polly Ann Trail back to the school. See included map.

  • It could be cold, and we will be outside – plan costumes that day for the weather.
  • Oakland County Sheriff will be closing down Elmwood St. from the Polly Ann Trail to the school prior to our parade. Parents should plan on arriving to their viewing spot prior to the start or they will not be able to drive down Elmwood. There is additional parking at the Polly Ann Trail Head behind the old mill.
  • Cooper Standard will have volunteers passing out candy in front of their parking lot as students turn up Division.

  • Costume Guidelines:
As you guide your child in planning a costume, please keep in mind that we would appreciate your cooperation in planning something that is not scary, ghoulish, morbid, in any way offensive to any culture or particular group of people, or political in nature.  As you plan costumes, please be sensitive to the tragedy we experienced last November. As always, no toy weapons, guns, knives, swords, light sabers, etc. will be permitted.  Some ideas include storybook characters, positive role models, superheroes, fictional characters, patriotic costumes, etc.  If you do not want your child to participate in Halloween activities, please advise your child’s teacher. If you have any questions about the appropriateness of a costume in school, please contact Mr. McDevitt.
