Dear Leonard Elementary Families,

We are excited to share that a new principal has been selected to lead Leonard Elementary beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

Following a thoughtful selection process, we are pleased to introduce Courtney Morin, a dedicated educator and familiar face within our district, as the next principal of Leonard Elementary.

Mrs. Morin brings a strong background in elementary education, a commitment to student growth, and a collaborative approach to leadership. We are confident that her experience and passion will support a positive and engaging school environment for students, staff, and families.

Please take a moment to read the message below from Courtney Morin, where she shares more about herself and her excitement for joining the Leonard Elementary community.

~~~~~
Dear Leonard Elementary Families,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Leonard Elementary for the upcoming school year! It is a privilege to continue serving within Oxford Community Schools and I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Leonard community.
My journey in Oxford has been both meaningful and rewarding. I spent several years as a third grade teacher at Lakeville Elementary, where I built a strong foundation in supporting student learning and growth. I later served as an IB Coordinator at OELC, DA, and OES, and I am currently finishing the year there as an instructional coach, partnering with teachers and administration to strengthen instruction and student success. Each of these roles has deepened my commitment to creating positive, engaging, and high-quality learning environments for all students. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, and endorsements in Early Childhood and Science.
As I step into the Leonard Elementary principal position, my priority is to build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and staff. I believe that clear communication, collaboration, and a visible, supportive presence are essential to a thriving school community. Leonard Elementary is a special place and my goal is to ensure that we continue to be a place where every child feels safe, known, and inspired to learn.
On a personal note, I am married to my college sweetheart, Ben. We met at Western Michigan University (Go Broncos!). We have three children: Luke, who will be entering his junior year; Elle, who will be starting her freshman year; and Drew, who will be heading into 6th grade. Being both an educator and a parent gives me a deep appreciation for the partnership between home and school.
As I prepare to get to know your student(s) for the 26-27 school year, I have included an optional "Getting to Know You" form below for you to fill out. This is a way for us to initially connect and helps me understand each student’s unique needs, interests, and strengths. I am genuinely excited about collaborating with each of you to build upon the strong family community that defines Leonard Elementary.
Thank you for your continued support of Leonard Elementary - I look forward to a wonderful year ahead together.
Warm regards,
Courtney Morin
The month of April is celebrated as Neurodiversity Acceptance month. At Leonard Elementary, we are dedicated to raising awareness about individuals on the autism spectrum as well as educating about inclusion and acceptance of everyone! During the month of April, Mrs. McLeod, our Family School Liaison (FSL) will teach Disability Awareness lessons in all classrooms. All month long we will emphasize belonging, community, and embracing the unique qualities that make each of us special.
I simply wanted to make you aware of this wonderful opportunity for the students in our community to learn more about this topic. Please reach out to Erin if you have any questions. Her phone number is 248-969-1845. Her email is erin.mcleod@oxfordschools.org
Due to the ongoing power outage, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule today’s 2:30 p.m. 5th grade capstone presentations. We know this is a disappointment for our students and families who have worked so hard to prepare. We want to ensure our students have the best possible environment to showcase their learning.
What happens next:
  • Our 5th-grade team is working to select a new date.
  • We will communicate that date to you as soon as it is finalized.
Thank you for your patience and understanding with these unanticipated circumstances.
There is currently a power outage at Leonard Elementary caused by today’s high winds.
  • Current Status: We are working closely with DTE, though we do not yet have an estimated time for power restoration.
  • Student Wellbeing: Our students are calm, safe, and doing great. All students have received lunch. Our incredible staff members are handling the situation with total professionalism and care.
5th Grade Capstone Update
Student presentations are currently scheduled for 2:30 PM today. If power is not restored by that time, we will reschedule the presentations.
We will make a final determination on the Capstone schedule as soon as we have more information from DTE.
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this "off grid" afternoon!
Dear OCS Elementary Families,
We are aware that some parents and guardians are experiencing difficulties when attempting to access elementary report cards through the link emailed earlier today. In some instances, only the first page of the report card is loading; in others, the document is not opening at all.
PowerSchool employs a process called Document Management to prepare report cards for viewing and storing the file after the email notification is sent. Due to the high volume of report cards released simultaneously, it seems that the system is processing more slowly than usual. As a result, trying to access the report card immediately may lead to errors.
If you encounter this issue, please wait a little while and try the link in your email again later today or tomorrow. We understand this is inconvenient and appreciate your patience as the system completes its processing.
If you are still unable to access your child’s report card by tomorrow, please contact your building’s secretary for assistance.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Leonard Families,
Just a few reminders during these cold weather months:
  • Please be sure your child has a winter coat
  • Please be sure, they have boots, hats, gloves and anything else you would like to send, including snow pants
Depending on the weather if a student does not have the proper clothes to be safe outside and we do not have extras in the office, which we sometimes do, they might need to stay inside.
Our top 3 concerns are the right coat, gloves and hats. If a student does not have boots or snow pants, we might keep them out of the snow depending on how deep and wet it is.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
